Introducing user authorization in Release Management Tool 27. January 2013 by Alex I pushed Ginger 126.96.36.199 to the demo site last night and this morning we got positive feedback from some customers that the update went smoothly (which is very exciting!). The main feature of this release is the addition of user authorization -- you can now explicitly grant or restrict what your users are allowed to do with Ginger. For example, here you can see the actions available to All Users in the Ginger Demo. We sell a release management tool and here we are doing change notes in a blog post. I know, right? Soon we will be distributing our releases via a publicly available Ginger installation, but until then, here's a list of the changes to enjoy in Ginger 188.8.131.52. Features User activity now requires authorization by a site administrator. Created user groups and pages to manage user groups and permissions. New users will be automatically added to the All Users group. Bug Fixes Vault plugins: When multiple changes are committed as one checkin-transaction, multiple historical records, with duplicated comments, were created; corrected this bug. Removed the "tour page" button -- this was error prone and not very useful. Submitting "-- Select New Build --" when finding a migration plan will no longer throw an ArgumentOutOfRangeException. User registration and login failures will now have a meaningful description of the failure. When navigating through pages of history, the Recent menu item used to link to the current page, not the first page. Added an install condition for IIS 6 or 7 in the MSI. Corrected jquery paths looking in /Scripts instead of /js. Misc New username restrictions - no leading or trailing whitespace, no double-spaces, no colons, no new lines. The top-menu items will now depress to help with navigation. Added an index action on ginger/RecentActivity/, redirecting to page 1 -- /ginger/recentactivity/ will now show you all recent activity in the site. Added titles to all date-as-ago fields to show recorded datetime -- Mouse over "3 days ago" to see the date and time that was recorded. Began deprecation of demo-mode -- Asserting authorizations instead of demo-mode when uploading builds and attaching or downloading files. Now displaying downloads without regard to demo mode. Now displaying the website version in the footer. Bumped the version to 184.108.40.206 and the copyright to 2013.
